About 2:45 a.m., Ellenville officers saw a vehicle being driven erratically down Center Street and followed it to the dead end on Mill Street, where the driver, Sergio Ulysse, 37, of 6 Mill St., Ellenville, was seen ducking down on the driver’s side of the vehicle, police said.
Officers called for backup and a second Ellenville police unit, state police and an Ulster County Sheriff's Office unit arrived at the scene.
Ulysse was ordered out of the vehicle but refused “lawful orders" to exit, according to an Ellenville Police Department press release. When officers approa...hed him, he became combative, striking them in the face multiple times and cutting the state trooper’s eye, police said.
Ulysse also tried to seize a taser from an officer and turn it against the officer, but without success, police said.
Police said Ulysse remained combative after being arrested and had to be restrained at the station.
The two Ellenville officers and the trooper who were struck were taken to Ellenville Regional Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released, police said. The trooper needed stitches.
Ulysse was charged with three felony counts of attempted assault on a police officer, one felony count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, and the misdemeanors of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and drunken driving, police said.
