“Cadet Morgan was a valued member of the Corps of Cadets and will be missed by all,” West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams said Friday.
Morgan died Thursday morning when the tactical vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned in rough, wooded terrain off Route 293 in Orange County while en route from West Point to an off-campus summer training facility.
Twenty-one other people — the two soldiers who were operating the vehicle and 19 cadets who were passengers — were injured in the crash. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening. All ...ere treated at hospitals and released.
Morgan was a law and legal studies major at West Point and was a standout member of the school's wrestling team, the academy said.
“We are devastated by the news of Chris’ passing. He was a talented, hard-working and determined athlete who loved his sport,” said West Point wrestling coach Kevin Ward. “Chris had an infectious personality with a smile big enough to fill any room, and a heart big enough to love everyone around him. He made everyone around him better, and he will be greatly missed.”
