Woodstock Library trustees discussed a 25-page draft contract at their March 6 Building Committee meeting. The contract would obligate the library district to pay $475,000 by next Jan. 15 for “Architect’s Basic Services” to design a new 12,000-square-foot library.
This large expense was not included in the budget approved by voters last September, and the library doesn't have the money in the bank. The trustees are not explaining how they’ll make the $32,000 monthly payments or the $204,000 payment due in January.
Voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea of a new lib...ary in the trustees’ survey just 16 months ago. The preferred choice of voters who filled out the survey was to renovate the existing building and build an addition on the north side.
The contract is scheduled for discussion and approval at the board meeting on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the library. Woodstock taxpayers should come out and be part of the conversation.
