The death of the VRM resident, who also had other underlying health issues, marks the first death from COVID-19 at the county-operating nursing home.
The Rensselaer County Health Department also confirmed 12 new positive cases Wednesday. The county also announced a new case involving a 69-year-old woman who is a resident at VRM, and a 59-year-old Troy woman who is an employee at the VRM. There have been 23 cases involving VRM residents and 27 cases involving VRM employees since March.
The new cases include three with contacts to positives, three travelers, two health care...workers, one college professor, one nursing home resident, and two with unknown sources of transmission. The county also continues to see a high number of residents in monitor quarantine with 984, including 624 due to exposure and 360 stemming from travel.
The new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 1,275 since tracking began in March. There are now 133 active cases in the county.
The county also announced six new cases as cleared for recovery. There have been 1,094 cases cleared to date.
